November: A Month in the Life of Skillequal

By br

Here at Skillequal, we see all our staff and players as one big family. Their success on the pitch is our success too! With many highlights to shout about, we thought it was only right to start sharing their achievements.

Let’s start with Luton Town boss Nathan Jones, who earlier this month, received the League Two Manager of the Month Award for October following some heavy wins. After agonisingly losing to Blackpool in the play-off semi-finals last year, the pressure was on Nathan and his squad to gain promotion this season. The Hatters, who have won 8-2, 7-0 and 7-1 at home this term, ended the month top of the pile after 20 games with a November record of 10 points for four matches, meaning Nathan remains fully on track to gain promotion come May.

Moving from the dugout to the pitch, a special mention must go to one of our young players, Ipswich’s Flynn Downes, who made his England U-19s debut this month, starring in a 6-0 win over the Faroe Islands. Flynn went on to make a further two appearances for the Young Lions against Iceland and Bulgaria. Having broken into the Tractor Boys’ first-team, it’s shaping up to be a fantastic season for our midfield dynamo.

Another young lad who deserves a mention is Aston Villa’s Keinan Davis. Keinan was playing non-league football in 2015 and has now secured regular first-team action with the Villans at 19 years of age. The striker’s rise saw us secure a new contract with the promotion chasers this month, which keeps Keinan with the club until 2020. We’re delighted for Keinan and are pretty sure Steve Bruce is too.

Delighted for @keinandavis_39 on signing a new deal with @avfcofficial #2020 ???⚽️?

The Villa boss said: “It’s been a meteoric rise. Not much more than a year ago he was playing for Biggleswade. But he’s an old-fashioned centre forward, the sort Aston Villa have always been associated with.

“He’s known rejection and he’s come through. He’s a quiet lad who’s grasped the opportunity and he’s doing everything right at the moment.”

November also gave the team the chance to catch up with Joe Cole. It’s always great to see Joe who’s been with us for the whole of his career and is loving life with the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the United States. We want to wish the former England and Chelsea star a very Happy Birthday and look forward to seeing him fly the English flag in the States next season!

Fellow England international and multiple Premier League champion, Michael Carrick, is back in training with Manchester United after undergoing cardiac ablation treatment. Michael felt unwell during the Red Devils’ League Cup match against Burton Albion in September and it turned out he had an irregular heart rhythm. But we’re delighted to say that the midfielder, who will be offered a coaching role by the club, is now building up his fitness and will be available for selection soon.

This season’s Premier League has been as exciting as ever, and some of our players are enjoying a fantastic campaign with their clubs. Firstly, Burnley boys Robbie Brady and Nick Pope, who have played a key part in the Clarets reaching the heights of sixth going into December.

Robbie, who played a full-part in both legs of Republic of Ireland’s World Cup play-off defeat to Denmark, celebrated his 100th Premier League appearance and netted the winner at AFC Bournemouth. Meanwhile, between the sticks, Nick has been the man of the moment since grabbing his chance. The stopper received Burnley’s November Player of the Month Award and has been in the headlines as his saves have seen him top the goalkeeping charts in the Premier League and Europe! Keep it going boys!

Staying with the top-flight, we must also highlight the form of Premier League newcomer Lewis Dunk. There have been many positive headlines regarding Lewis and his Brighton teammates, who have made a fantastic start to the season. The centre-back has been the backbone of the side, a real rock at the back with his defensive partner Shane Duffy. Lewis’ performances have seen him named in BBC Sport’s Premier League Team of the Week on two occasions. All-in-all it’s been a great month for Lewis as he also celebrated his 26th Birthday, so a big Happy Birthday from all at Skillequal!

The best thing about representing players, is watching them fulfil their potential on the pitch, and that is certainly the case with Peterborough’s Jack Marriott at the minute. Jack has had made a fantastic start to his Posh career after signing from Luton in the summer. The forward hit the ground running in the goalscoring department at London Road and picked up the League One Player of the Month for August. Jack hasn’t looked back since and has notched more goals in November to take his tally to 14 for the season. At just 23, we can’t wait to see what more is to come!

Last, but certainly not least, is Joe Pigott, who is enjoying a fantastic first season with National League side Maidstone United. The Stones are enjoying their second successive campaign this level with Joe scoring three goals this month to take him up to nine for the term. Maidstone will now be aiming to challenge for a play-off spot, and, with Joe’s goals, they are certainly in with a shout!

So after a hectic month, it’s fantastic to be able to highlight the Skillequal family’s achievements. Stay tuned over the next few months because we will be sharing more of our successes, as well as giving you some insight into the life of a football agency.
